SoKo quits. For real.

So, the last item on this website created some stir and we can see why. SoKo quitting isn’t really what you would wish for. Why? SoKo sent me an e-mail with some of the reasons to quit. She allowed me to quote her, so here it is:

“I’ve read that people are wondering if i quit music .. i DID. Basically, it’s well known that I don’t wanna be a part of the music industry … I’ve never planned on doing music, so everything that
has been happening has been so amazing and i’m really greatfull but
it’s really scary for me .. and I’m just at that period of my life where I wonder if it’s really what I want : telling my stories to a lot of people that i don’t know .. seems really egoticentric to me … and that’s not what i’m about.”

On the record she writes: “I did a record in a studio, that had cost a lot of money .. and I didn’t liked it coz it sounded too much like a studio record and not enough like my garage band crap that i like more … and i had no money to remix it. I thought it was a sign that I shouldn’t put it out … not now .. maybe in 10, 20 years … but not now.”

Don’t quit, get back in the black jack on line action with multiplayer online blackjack from the web’s top online casino at AceHoyle.com!

As you probably know, SoKo started with acting even before becoming a singer. She misses acting now, as well as seeing the world, travelling and all that: “All I was doing when I was doing only music was being depressed, locked in my dark room and write sad song .. this is not how life should be …!”

So SoKo will take her time to get to the things she deems important at this moment. And about the album? Maybe later: “Music is still the most precious thing I have.. the only amazing thing living in me… I didn’t wanted to ruin it by letting it out too early … spearding it out to the wild world… I’m still writing and all that .. and i miss playing gigs a lot … but i’m not ready at all to release an album .. at all !”

But what is that new date on her myspace: 30 April 2009 at “Regent Theatre” LA, California?

She did play a gig at the Regent Theatre last night (played for about 30 mins). I talked to her after the show, she told me “she doesn’t do music any more” (with a smile). Not really sure what that means, but the show was a lot of fun. She is a great performer. Even if she doesnt want to release any albums, I hope she continues playing gigs, because I know a lot of her fans will keep going.

SoKo at The Regent Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles was a gem of a show (4/30/2009). I’ve never seen her live, but her voice was very depressed and sad, it seemed. She smiled through it with a spontaneous backing band she had on stage. She ended the show alone with her ukelele and sang, “Why Don’t You Eat Me Now You Can” and “I Will Never Love You More.” Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/jeffrostube

It’s a tear jerker, if this is her final performance…

It’s a shame in the short term, but somehow I think dear Soko will be back in a year or so. Everyone needs a break now and again. It’s better to have a change of air than — heaven forbid — to end up like Nick Drake. And I’m afraid that’s what I thought the moment I saw ‘Soko is Dead’ and ‘Hell, France’ on Soko’s Myspace page. Panic over — I’m sure she’ll be back.

so that’s good and somehow i think it’s better this way
you know, having to search online for her myspace songs
she’s still gonna do it, i have a feeling.

This really sucks for us: but i dont think people should bug her about her decision to save her talents from turning to mush by the music industry. Before you guys get angry at her for quitting, you have to realize that a move like this is what SHE wants, and it’s what makes her so unique, which was why we love her in the first place, am i right? :)

It really is bad to read that soko quits. But spend all your time writing sad lyrics about love stories can really ruin your life.
So I’m glad she quits if it can make her life better, even if we won’t hear more of nice songs from her for a long time.

oh soko i just found you today,
and lost you all in the same day.
    what a shame.
i can say all the positive & supportive things right here,
but i think i’ll go the other route and say
what a selfish and insecure thing to do..
how dare you deprive the public of your talented,
unless you don’t believe you are talented
    or have anything to share.
    tsk tsk
what if your story is, amongst many angles, inspirational? helpful. guiding.
    we’re not an individual species.
    we thrive on companionship,
and keeping it all to yourself is selfish. inhuman.

    but, i wish you well.

We’ll she not quiting. She just putting off her music for a while. That’s kool.

Maybe if there was more money in the industry, she would have more incentive to sing and play her stuff. The music industry been rough and tuff for musicians alike.

Face it we are download free junkies. As long as our ipod function, who gives a fuck.

Maybe if we or the world sent some money-music support, Soko would put out her street garage sound. Original shit! U know…How people are willing to pay for it!

Well, I think she is making a brave decision here. It’s not gonna be easy to say to people and her fans that she is thinking about taking it slow. taking her time and making sure she is getting it right.

Life is for living, and if she ends up spending most of that time in a sad place, just to make good songs, then i say F*** that.

Thanks Soko, for giving us thus little glimpse of your talents and we wish you all the best in whatever field you choose to dedicate yourself to!
