SoKo in Australia

So, tomorrow SoKo will conclude her Australian tour with a show at the Music and Arts Festival in Byron Bay. I hope you guys over there went to her shows and had a great time. Apparently, people buying a ticket for her gig at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne got a great start to 2009, as SoKo played for a stunning 2.5 hours there!

SoKo did a couple of interviews when she was in Australia. There is one with the Sydney Morning Herald, where she tells the reporter about her hit song “I’ll Kill Her”: “I don’t want to talk about it,” she says. “I think it’s shit and I don’t even want it on the radio. It doesn’t reflect the kind of music I’m doing today.” More on that in a more detailed interview with SoKo at Rave Magazine.

Did you attend one of her shows? How did you like it? Please tell us about it in the comments below.

I saw her yesterday at Sunset Sounds, it was really great – I’m not sure if she was nervous, or had a bit of a cold, but she was a bit teary at the start, and even stopped during one song – she started to cry, but the guys in the band gave her a pat on the back, and she jumped right back in from where she left off… that was a pretty powerful moment.

From then on she seemed to perk up and by the end she was belting it out, including the song about peanut butter (because she wanted to play a happy song). I think they even went a little over time (I could see her talking off the side of stage, saying ‘one more song, it’s a short one…’) so I guess she was feeling much better by then. (Although she did say she was going to retire from music… hopefully just a joke!)

Anyway it was a great set, (remind me not to fall in love with every awesome female singer I see). The crowd was very appreciative and I hope we helped to make her feel better.
Later in the night I saw Soko walk past in the crowd – if only I was brave enough to go up and tell her “Don’t retire yet!”

I was stuck in the lineup to get in to the venue so missed Soko’s performance but apparently she was crying on stage. Maybe something about her retiring from music??? All second hand information (but heard the crying on stage from multiple people) and mentioned in this thread. http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=19993

I saw her in Marion Bay a few weeks ago for Falls, and she blew me away.
He voice is pretty mediocre in skill, but her lyrics and enthusiasm is so raw, she just, wow.
    Amazing.
Definitely one of my favourite acts at Falls.
It was a mistake and a shame that she was on the smaller stage, the place was packed.

I am now on the look for her album.
    She is simply inspiring.

Soko was amazing at the Corner Hotel. She engaged the crowd ever so sweetly and played for a massive two hours.

She cried at Southbound too! Apparently it was a song about her dad, everyone in the audience started crying it was so intense, but so worth it, I would have paid the $190 all over again just to see her play

i saw her at Falls in Lorne and although she doe what she wants (vocally) she still manages to amaze an audience soley with her stage enthusiasm and adorable smile.
The second my mates and I saw her walk around to the side stage area we could not help but to jump up and down and squeel like 13 year old school girls and our immature demenour did not subside when she actually started her set. the way she just hops around from one insrument to the other is amazing and humerous at the same time.
hearing that she started crying in some of her shows was really upsetting! the fact that such a talented young performer got so emoitonal over something, and i almost shed a tear myself when i read in the rave magazine interview that it was implied that thtis was to be her last tour of Aust and possibly anywhere… I WANT MORE SOKO!!!

I got an amazing opportunity in 2008 to see SOKO play a free set in Hollywood Ca, PASSWORD veganburger lol, a friend of mine told me about her so I thought I would roll up and see her and OHHHH MY GOD i got Blown away by her performance, Love her music her style her everything, and have been looking for an album for ever to buy, and then sadly tonight I go to her myspace page and what does it say, Soko is dead, that she quit, I just want to verify if this is true or if there is some kinda prank being played, It will be a shame if I never get the chance to see her again, though being able to see Soko in such an intimate show my one and only time I feel grateful.
